Alfa Romeo 159 - 2004-2011

Engines-1.75 TBI petrol

              1.8 MPI petrol

              1.9 JTS petrol

              2.2 JTS petrol

              3.2 JTS V6 petrol

              1.9 JTDm diesel

              2.0 JTDm diesel

              2.4 JTDm diesel

Alfa's petrol engines are famous, but on this model ,diesel engines have better recommendations.Optimal version would be 1.9l JTDM 150Bhp Because 120Bhp engine bit small for heavy 159.Both engines are considered the most reliable.

2.0L JTDM is good to ,by its design it resembles basic diesel engine.

2.4L powerful engine was designed by adding 5th cylinder on 1.9L JTDM 4cylinder engine, which is less reliable and more expensive in exploitation.

1.8L petrol engine was borrowed from Opel.

1.75L turbo engine have good characteristics ,but not lasting long.

1.9-2.2L JTS was designed with timing chain (Not a belt like others)but -'did not come true' Those engines was designed with GM concern and can fail after 60.000miles.

3.2l V6 was made by HOLDEN which is GM sister company.

159 Suspension is further development of the multi-link scheme from previous 156 model. The manufacturer has improved its quality and made some changes now its more cheaper service and lasts much longer ,i would say twice longer.

One of the weak points of the model mechanical .gearbox, which can break after 120000miles.Difficulties with the gearbox can cause wear of a complex cable mechanism in gear selection or clutch.

Problems-High fuel consumption (not only on 3.2)

Small trunk

Low front .

Timing chain on 1.9-2.2 JTS.

Steering rack corrosion.

Steering lock.

Bearing noise 1.9L JTDM 6-gear mechanical gearbox.
